0 Comments 0 FavoritesI'm new to this forum, but very interested to hear what all of you think about the current fascination in the media with vampires, witches, magic, etc. I do free-lance writing, and am currently working on a series of articles dealing with this topic. I'd really like to get a bit of an idea of how Adventist youth feel about these things.
So my questions are:
What do you think of the many books and movies (like Twilight and Harry Potter) that portray things like vampires, witches, wizards, werewolves, ghosts, magic, and spells?
Have you ever read/watched any of these books/movies?
I'd super appreciate your responses!

I'd like to share my view on this topic. I was able to watch all the Harry Potter series and the first 2 Twilight series and it's fun I guess. Some of my friends and officemates love to read its book too. It is fun, it has suspense and a little bit of romance to complete the story. For just a movie fan like, I enjoyed it! No more no less, for I know it wasn't real. Unfortunately for some, they become too attatch to the movie, they idolize it, they try to re-live the characters in them and unknowingly they didn't notice that it affects their character, thier attitude and their life. Moreover it affects their belief. That I think is the downside of it. Their are trying to fill their mind with this fictitious characters, spells, or magic and spend most of their time to these things rather than spending it for God. As a Christian and a Seventh-Day Adventist, I suggest that we try to control ourselves, if we can't...better to avoid these things. Thanks! (^___^)

People area facinated with those things because they do not understand them, but from our bible we know that the devil angels and falowers are many and have powers just like the ones we could have if we pray and believe in God, (read about Moses, the profets , Peter and Paul...).
In the bible there were witches/wizards, ghost, magic and spells, God tell use to keep away from those things.
The books and movies are not bad per say but there is the danger of becoming facinated by the content that we could take a detour from our path to heaven, just like Saul did.

I haven't read or watched a lot of that stuff. I try to avoid stories with magic in them because I always feel far away from God afterwards. Also after watching the first Twilight movie I couldn't stop thinking about vampires for about a month and I felt haunted which very well could be an after-affect of seeing Bella stalked by Edward. Ugh.
