According to a recent study by the NAD, teh average age of Adventists is 51. The average age is the mid30's for Canada and US. What are your thoughts on what we as Youth professionals can do to stem the tide? In the spirit of full disclosure, I am researching the topic for my doctoral degree.

Greetings Delroy,

According to Thom Rainier in Surprising Insights to the Unchurched, the number one reason why an unchurched person became connected in a local church body, was because they made a connection with the pastor/preacher. My doctoral dissertation is in the area of effective communication principles with the intent of discovering what characteristics would be attractive to a young adult. I am happy to send it to you (or anyone else interested) via PDF if you fire me an email to vagabondservant@gmail.com.

So I think that Adventist pastors need to work on becoming more effective/relevant in the pulpit!

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the info. If your dissertation is available via library resources I can get it. Otherwise I'll email you within the week as I am gathering resources. I am finding books by Troy Fitzgerald, Barry Gane and others within the Adventist church. Are there any youth professionals who have read these books and found success with their groups?
