Deceptive Practices in Courtship.--A young man who enjoys the society and wins the friendship of a young lady unbeknown to her parents does not act a noble Christian part toward her or toward her parents. Through secret communications and meetings he may gain an influence over her mind, but in so doing he fails to manifest that nobility and integrity of soul which every child of God will possess. In order to accomplish their ends, they act a part that is not frank and open and according to…

Good day brethren. It’s Friday here in the Philippines. Tomorrow will be Sabbath day. And so, it’s my schedule to deliver my sermon during the Second Service. I want to use the text found in Hebrews 12:1: “Let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up.” I’ve got a couple of stories I would use for this text as examples (taken from my devotional books, of…

So here we are again at another Sabbath. I love my Sabbath rest as much as the next person. I also love to praise the One who wills me to live despite my many faults and mistakes. What I fail to understand is why don't other people want to take a chance to praise God for his marvelous works? In the lesson this week it talked about God as an Artist and how he crafted everything, including us. It took time to put everything in place. Think of a sunset or the constellations in the sky, or even…

This is just a quick little announcement to share that my younger sister's debut album, New Life, is now available. Jessica Fisher's CD feaures all new, original music written by Seventh-day Adventists.
Two songs, including the song the album title comes from, Simple Yes or No and New Life were adapted by Jessica from beautiful poems written by a young single mother who literally walked into our church in California on Sabbath and…

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after…

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:…

In our society, those with talent, education and wealth, those in control decide how everyone else will think and act. However, in God's eyes, things should be totally different. He calls leaders to be servants, not masters. People with positions of power are more obligated to serve their fellow citizens.
"But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be…

If Bill Gates, the richest man and biggest philanthropist in the world came to you out of the blue and asked, "what must I do to have eternal life?" What would you tell him? Oh, and the press is recording you...

A man stood up who knew the Law and tried to trap Jesus. He said, “Teacher, what must I do to have life that lasts forever?” Jesus said to him,“What is written in the Law? What does the Law say?” The man said, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart. You must love Him with all your soul. You must love Him with all your strength. You must love Him with all your mind. You must love your neighbor as you love…

Science is too limited.
Philosophy can't explain it.
Salvation can be understood only by your own personal experience.
Will you keep your heart open to the Holy Spirit?

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!" and then "I am the Door. Anyone who goes in through Me will be saved from the punishment of sin. He will go in and out and find food." (John 10:1, 9 NLT, NLV).
It occurs to me that anyone who puts a system, ritual or a person in the place of Jesus is a robber.
Any thoughts?

Don't be deceived. Do you allow others to study and think for you? The only way to truly know truth from error is through your own study of the Bible.

"On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, 'Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'" (John 7:37, 38 NLT)
I'm definitely thirsty. Do you want to join me?

As we move to the next year, let us take a moment to reflect how God has lead us this past 2011;
how He answered our prayers;
cared for our love ones;
put us in our career and took us to different places;
how faithful He is to us despite our failures and shortcomings.
God has been so good to us.....
Have a meaningful reflection...(~___^)

"Many among his disciples heard this and said, 'This is tough teaching, too tough to swallow.'" (John 6:60 MSG)
Have you ever said that in your heart? If so, what made you pursue Jesus anyway and follow His teachings? Share your story in the comments below, so other people can be inspired by it.

One of the things that annoys me from having ADHD is that many times it is nearly impossible to focus on what I want. It's not a lack of attention, but a constant changing of focus. Then, I take the "miracle pill" (as I call it) and voila! I'm able to choose what to focus on and become highly productive.
It occurs to me that there's also a spiritual ADHD condition that we all humans are born with. We want to focus on Jesus, but when troubles come, we focus on the problems instead of…

Do you leave the work of sharing the love of God to the church or the pastor, believing that the "professionals" will do a better job?
Believe me, we pastors also have our own comfort zone that sometimes is difficult to leave. We are tempted to focus on those who already know Jesus, thus staying in maintenance mode, rather then being proactive in the sharing of the gospel. We all, "professionals" or not, have a tremendous responsibility. Scores of people around us…
